Silva Youth

Momodou Sanu Jallow a.k.a Silver Youth

Born as Momodou Sanu Jallow in the early 80s, Silver youth hailed from Brikama where he grew up. He went to Brikama Primary School and proceeded to Muslim Senior Secondary School where he completed his education. Silver Youth is a well known reggae musician now in the Gambia especially in his home town Brikama.
“I had the inspiration of being a musician at a young age and I began singing hip hop music with a friend, Amstrong , who is no longer in the music field.” During the early stages of his singing career Silver Youth met Alagie Jallow a.k.a Natty Ala who is a big reggae music fan. After listening to his songs Natty Ala persuaded him to change his music into reggae. As a reggae music fan himself Silver Youth did not find it difficult to switch. 1994 was the first time this rising reggae star appeared on stage and attracted a lot of fans in Brikama where his career was set in motion. After releasing his first single “Everlasting Life” in 1995, Silver Youth met Lamin Dahaba a.k.a Rock Base who promoted Rebellion D'recaller at the time. Dahaba now in the UK encouraged him to join a crew “the Inspired Ones” of which Rebellion and other solo artists in Brikama were members. Members of the crew individually produced their own songs and sometimes came together in a combination. This crew is still existing and powerful.
Between 1996 and 1999 Silver Youth released two more singles, The world of Confusion and Judgement Day which catapulted him and further enhanced his links with prominent DJs in the Gambia. After completing his high school education, Silver Youth decided to concentrate on developing his skills in reggae music. The Brikama reggae sensation later on dropped two singles, Heaven Above and Truth for Right which captured even more audience and boosted his popularity in the provinces during a country wide tour with Njie B . Following a successful country wide tour, Good and Evil Deeds , another new single was on the airwaves, maintaining his growing popularity. Silver Youth's dramatic rise caught the attention of even more people in the music industry. He was introduced to a Senegalese cultural music teacher Ali Baba based in Germany. Ali Baba also promotes music in the southern Senegalese city of ziguinchor. This Senegalese music promoter was thrilled by Silver Youth's music and wasted no time in inviting him to a three day music festival in ziguinchor. His Ziguinchor adventure was a big success as he a blew reggae fans into a frenzied atmosphere. Silver youth himself was surprised at the reception of his music by the French speaking Senegalese as his lyrics are in English. He was interviewed on the numerous local radio stations putting him at close range of many local DJs and music promoters in ziguinchor. His contacts with the local music promoters grew stronger resulting in him visiting Ziguinchor on three occasions in a space of two months. Silver Youth is also one of the featured artists in the recently released Njie B album. Ice Gold and Green was hit when it was released and is continuing to thrill fans. He is at present working hard to fulfil his dream of releasing his first album. Silver Youth who studied computer hardware maintenance and graphic design is also intending to further his education.
