PA OMAR JACK- NEW MBALAX SENSATION
Tune into any radio and wait for the mbalax play list…
it is a must that you would hear fish n chips on
any disk jockey's
favourites.
That is very rare for local mbalax artists to excel
and get regular airplay alongside their Senegalese
counterparts. Pa Omar Jack a 26 year old seems to
be answer to the myth that ‘mbalax stars from Gambia
' are just not good enough. Nephew to Mbalax star
Mass Lowe, Pa Omar kicked off his career carbon-copying
Mass and Youssou Ndour to cut out a niche for himself.
As a teenager he went around struggling to get a demo
made for him and came to the mercy of producers Elie
Nachif and Kebba Taylor. That was his
first studio
sample that heard voice on his developing career on
record. After years of sampling and research, Pa kept
the momentum yearning to live his dreams and joined
Leon Prom on his hotel performances. That gave him
more exposure and has been singing live for years
until he had his own band, resident at Paradise Hotel.
Television producer Lamin Manga who had him on his
first tele appearance believed in him
and went in
to partnership with it him. The combination sparked
off his career and he went back to the studio, recording
jingles and soundtracks for various commercials. From
commercials, Pa and his producer took a leap forward
to attempt
his debut album. Album The album entitled ‘niniyo'
a mandinka word for shadow reflects on social stigmatism
on people living with the HIV/Aids virus. It also
features the hit single Fish n chips, Leumbal saye,
Aduna, Nice to be Nice, Nuyoo and moi me. Album is
a combination of mainstream Dakar made mbalax and
acoustic, which features the creative fingers of ace
Producer Papis Konateh, Kebba Taylor, and Wole Rendall
amongst other musicians. Pa has already banked new
songs for project 2, which will
feature more
mbalax potentials to keep the Gambia mbalax star syndrome
going, and a feel of acoustic tracks to attract international
ears. Niniyo is set for release by June.
