Kumba Kuyateh’s Biography
Kumba was born on the 22nd April 1984 in Banjul and was brought up in Senegal, a town called Mbour – few kilo meters away from Dakar. She attended Muhammedan Primary School from and then to Saint Augustine’s Junior Secondary School and eventually to Gambia Senior Secondary School graduatin in 2006. She is currently enrolled with the University of the Gambia to pursuing her BSc in Computer Science. expecting to graduate in 2011.

Kumba was born in a family of griots – the Kuyatehs. She was born and brought up in music but did not pursue it as a career until in 2007 when she took part in the first Miss July 22nd Scholarship Pageant organized to promote female education. Kumba’s first appearance on the stage and on national TV as a real griot was when she performed her talent show on the Miss July 22nd Scholarship Pageant where she sang and played the “Ballafon”.
From there she was encouraged by many, more especially by Fatou Camara – the presenter of the “Fatushow”, to consider persuing music as a career. She then released her first sinlge called “Mussolu” and later made a wonderful jingle for the “FatuShow” as a way to express her gratitude to Fatou Camara for helping her so much in the music world. The FatuShow jingle is loved and adored by many people in the Gambia. It is liked by both men and women, young and old and has made her so famous.
